These easy caramel apples are a fantastic Halloween treat! They are healthy, delicious, and a breeze to make! Dip your apples in your favorite toppings, and serve them at your next Halloween, birthday, or fall party! YUM!
Easy Recipe, Easy Ingredients!
Apples
You may use any apples for this recipe! My favorite is granny smith, for they are tart and beautifully complement the sweet caramel flavor! However, most apples nowadays come with a wax coating, preventing caramel from sticking. Therefore, removing any wax coating before dipping your apples into the caramel is essential. Please see the instructions below on how to remove the wax.
Caramel
I love using caramel candy in my dessert recipes! They are convenient and delicious and result in a perfect texture! For this recipe, I used Werther’s Original Soft Caramels. Please feel free to use your favorite caramel candy.
Toppings
What I love most about these caramel apples is you can customize them for any occasion! Top them with sprinkles and serve them at your birthday party, roll them in chopped nuts for a fall treat, or decorate them with spooky add-ins for your next Halloween party! The options are endless! Bon appétit!
Easy Caramel Apples
Ingredients
- 6 granny smith apples
- 15 oz soft caramels (I used Werther's Original Soft Caramels)
- 2 Tbsp heavy cream (optional)
- your favorite toppings (chopped peanuts, M&M's, sprinkles, melted chocolate, etc.)
Instructions
- Dip 3/4 of an apple in boiling water for 30 seconds to remove its wax. Next, remove the apple and rub it with a paper towel to remove any excess wax. You may need to repeat this step more than once if the wax isn't completely gone the first time. Repeat with the remaining apples, and allow them to cool to room temperature before dipping into the caramel. Meanwhile, remove the stems and push sticks into the apples' cores.
- Preheat a saucepan on low heat for a few minutes. Next, put in the soft caramels and stir until they start to melt. Add in the heavy cream and stir until the caramel is completely melted. Remove from the heat, and allow 2-3 minutes of cooling.
- Dip 3/4 of an apple into the caramel, tilting the pot as needed to coat and scraping all the caramel excess off the bottom using a butter knife. Next, roll your apple in chopped nuts, sprinkles, or your favorite topping. (work quickly as the caramel sets fast). Finally, place your apple on a parchment-lined tray and repeat with the remaining apples.
- Refrigerate your caramel apples for 15 minutes before serving. Enjoy!
Notes
- Store your apples in the refrigerator for up to one week.
