- 6 granny smith apples
- 15 oz soft caramels (I used Werther's Original Soft Caramels)
- 2 Tbsp heavy cream (optional)
- your favorite toppings (chopped peanuts, M&M's, sprinkles, melted chocolate, etc.)
Dip 3/4 of an apple in boiling water for 30 seconds to remove its wax. Next, remove the apple and rub it with a paper towel to remove any excess wax. You may need to repeat this step more than once if the wax isn't completely gone the first time. Repeat with the remaining apples, and allow them to cool to room temperature before dipping into the caramel. Meanwhile, remove the stems and push sticks into the apples' cores.
Preheat a saucepan on low heat for a few minutes. Next, put in the soft caramels and stir until they start to melt. Add in the heavy cream and stir until the caramel is completely melted. Remove from the heat, and allow 2-3 minutes of cooling.
Dip 3/4 of an apple into the caramel, tilting the pot as needed to coat and scraping all the caramel excess off the bottom using a butter knife. Next, roll your apple in chopped nuts, sprinkles, or your favorite topping. (work quickly as the caramel sets fast). Finally, place your apple on a parchment-lined tray and repeat with the remaining apples.
Refrigerate your caramel apples for 15 minutes before serving. Enjoy!
- Store your apples in the refrigerator for up to one week.
